Accommodating up to 700 people, this is the largest resort hotel on the Kenyan Coast. This low-rise complex is widely spread out on well maintained and spacious grounds. There is a clean and exotic flavor to white sands-yards of cool white marble, rows of arches and a wonderful use of water. The lounges and dining areas are in four separate open sided pavilions with colorfully decorated pillars and ceilings. Although accommodations blocks separate them from the sea, the public rooms overlook aquatic gardens and are reached by stepping stones and bridges. The full-board meals are repetitious buffets-commingling smells and long lines. For a change of

pace, there is a coffee bar, the pool grill and an a la carte restaurant. The wonderful tamarind restaurant is only a short cab ride away.

Accommodations at White sands beach hotel

The rooms have air conditioning, nice bathrooms, and private balconies. Many have lovely views and are only steps away from the beach. Double beds, larger triple rooms, and suites can be requested. There are 70 executive rooms with color satellite TV. Set away back from the sea is a sumptuous VIP cottage. The favorite is @1036 and #1037-quiter, ground floor, close to the beach.

Ocean View Beach Hotel

Concrete and run-down, sunbathers on plastic loungers crowd the constricted lawns facing the beach. There is a scuba diving center.

Neptune Beach Hotel

This is a family hotel with 80 rooms. A pleasant entry leads to a long and narrow plot busy with

shops, Disney ice cream bar, sun loungers, and colorful furniture. There is a thatched bar by a circular pool. Undistinguished rooms are set back from the beach.

Plaza Beach Hotel

A high-rise on a thin plot. There are slow elevators and tired wall to-wall carpeting and a pool.

Travelers Beach Hotel

This newer hotel is divided into two sections to skirt a private beachfront property. The hotel is long and narrow. There is a white and clean lobby with a high roof, stream, and swimming canal which connects with the pool. There are lines of shops, several restaurants, and many sports. Fully equipped rooms have a double and one single bed and a TV. There is a rather unreal

shopping mall atmosphere about this hotel. It s a long way to the sand. There is a small, but fully equipped health club and squash court.
